AG Ministry Refuses Jeremy Enriquez FOIA Requests
There’s a fresh development in the push to hold government accountable. Social activist Jeremy Enriquez is demanding answers, specifically, how much of your tax dollars have been spent on legal fees in recent constitutional cases. He filed a Freedom of Information request with the Attorney General’s Ministry, asking for the total cost and the names of the attorneys hired. But the AG’s Ministry isn’t budging. In a six-page response dated September second, the ministry flat-out refused to release the details, citing Section 28 of the Freedom of Information Act. Their reasoning? They say the information is “exempt material” and that sharing it could hurt the government’s position in ongoing legal battles. In fact, the response goes as far as saying that disclosing the info could leave the government “flat-footed” and compares it to revealing the salaries and allowances of every attorney on their payroll. Enriquez, however, isn’t letting this slide. He’s now taken the matter to the Office of the Ombudsman, asking for a formal review of the AG Ministry’s decision and pushing for an order to release the information. This is a developing story, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on how it unfolds.
