Briceño Administration Warns BTV Against Visiting Sarstoon

And while tensions at the Sarstoon are still simmering, the Belize Territorial Volunteers are planning to head there this Saturday, and they’re bringing the media along. But Prime Minister Briceño isn’t exactly cheering them on. In fact, he’s warning against the move, saying, quote, ‘You don’t wave a red flag in front of a raging bull.’

“I can’t deter, I can only give advice and my advice to Wil, and Wil is a dear friend of mine, is that don’t go there right now. Why do I say that? It has nothing to do with us saying we are admitting that it is not our land. It is our land, and we have every right, every citizen has every right, but if there is a mad bull in a ring, you don’t jump in there with a red flag, because they are going to attack you and we are just trying to prevent anything from getting hurt. These are civilians and they somebody is going to say the wrong thing or do the wrong them and then somebody trigger happiness, and somebody gets hurt. That is what we are trying to avoid. So far, we have been very successful in preventing harm to any citizen on both sides. And we want to keep it that way.”
