US Denying Visas to Foreigners ‘Celebrating’ Charlie Kirk’s Murder
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the State Department has been denying visas to foreigners who are “celebrating” the murder of Charlie Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump.
Speaking Tuesday before departing Israel, Rubio said that the policy “isn’t just about Charlie Kirk.” He said, “If you’re a foreigner and you’re out there celebrating the assassination of someone who was speaking somewhere, we don’t want you in the country. Why would we want to give a visa to someone who thinks it’s good that someone was murdered in the public square? That’s just common sense to me.”
Rubio did not provide specifics on how many visas had been denied, how officials determined who was “celebrating” Kirk’s death, or the legal authority used. He added that he did not know if any visas had been revoked yet but expected that some would be. “There’s no shortage of idiots around the world that have decided it’s a great idea to murder someone,” he said.
Domestically, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the government will target individuals engaging in hate speech. “We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech, anything, and that’s across the aisle,” she said, noting that threats of violence are not protected by the First Amendment.
