Tropical Storm Gabrielle Forms in Central Atlantic
Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed Wednesday morning over the central Atlantic Ocean, becoming the seventh named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasters say the system is expected to remain over open waters for the next several days.
The National Hurricane Centre said Gabrielle was situated roughly 1,000 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands and moving northwest at 22 miles per hour. Its maximum sustained winds reached 45 mph, just over the threshold that differentiates a tropical depression from a tropical storm.
Officials added that the storm’s path and overall forecast remain “highly uncertain” as the storm’s centre is still poorly defined.
Meanwhile, the National Meteorology Service of Belize issued its latest report on local conditions. It said skies “will be mostly cloudy with sunny breaks during the daytime,” adding that a “few showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur around the country.”
The Met Office also warned that rainfall will increase, “especially over southern and coastal areas tonight into tomorrow morning.”
