Two Charged in Fatal Cayo Hit-and-Run

Two Charged in Fatal Cayo Hit-and-Run

Two residents of San Ignacio have been charged in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of Miriam Requena in the Benque Viejo del Carmen area of the Cayo District on Sunday, September 14.

28-year-old Devora Andrea Jocabed Juarez has been formally arrested and charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct, Driving Without Due Care and Attention, and Failing to Stop and Render Aid. She also faces charges for driving without third-party insurance, using an unlicensed motor vehicle, and driving without a valid Belize driver’s licence.

Meanwhile, 58-year-old taxi driver Carlos Miguel Juarez has been charged with Permitting a Person to Drive Without a Permit.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero reported on Monday that police investigation revealed that Requena was “crossing the road when she was struck by a white car, which did not stop.”
