Police Officer Dies Days After Hit-and-Run

Police Constable Karen August passed away at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) today after she was a victim of a hit and run on the George Price Highway.

August, attached to the San Ignacio Police Formation, sustained severe injuries in the crash that occurred between miles 68 and 69 on Sunday, September 7. She had just completed her shift at the Kontiki Substation and was heading home to Succotz Village when the accident took place.

During the collision, August was thrown into a ditch, suffering injuries to her forehead, hands, and a deep cut to her left leg. Her colleague, Constable Kurlyn Hamilton, also received head injuries, arm cuts, and abrasions to his elbows and face.

On September 12, police formally arrested and charged 31-year-old Dijon McNab, a San Ignacio businessman, in connection with the incident. McNab faces multiple charges, including Negligent Grievous Harm, Negligent Wounding, Driving Without Due Care and Attention, Failing to Keep as Close as Possible on the Right-Hand Side of the Road, Failing to Stop and Render Aid, and Failing to Report an Accident.

She was the mother of two.
