Belize and Guatemalan Military Leaders to Meet
Tensions at the Sarstoon have put Belize and Guatemala back at the discussion table. After recent encounters between armed Guatemalan soldiers and the Belize Defense Force, military leaders from both countries are planning a series of meetings. Despite the friction, both nations remain committed to resolving the border dispute peacefully through the International Court of Justice. Today, BDF Commander Brigadier General Azariel Loria shared more details about what’s next in these high-level talks.

“I don’t want to preempt, but I will say this, that in the coming days we will be having a series of meetings. I think that the Minister of National Defense the honorable Oscar Mira, he has gone to Guatemala to meet with his counterpart, general Saenz is the Minister of the Guatemalan Armed Forces. There will be a meeting in the coming days and we will see where we go from there. But yes, there is something in the pipeline.”
