Bus Driver Charged After Fatal Ladyville Accident

Bus driver Phillip Sutherland from Lord’s Bank has been formally arrested and charged for the fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of 38-year-old Gabriel Mai.

The incident happened just before eleven o’clock on Sunday morning, September 21, along Marage Road in Ladyville.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, confirmed that Sutherland was charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention. The unlicensed bus he was driving has also been impounded.

Investigators revealed that Sutherland struck Mai while he was on his bicycle. “Mai was taken for medical treatment, where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Romero said.

According to police investigation, Mai had earlier been socialising at a house where alcohol was being consumed.
