Five Million Dollars Invested in Dangriga Projects
For decades, Stann Creek has been known as one of the “forgotten districts,” plagued by low investment and high unemployment. As the government continues to promise new opportunities, residents are demanding that these promises be fulfilled. So, what new investments have been made in recent years? We posed that very question to Dangriga Area Representative, Dr. Louis Zabaneh. Here’s what he had to say.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Area Representative, Dangriga
“We see a lot of change in the Stann Creek and Toledo districts. Yes, we were the forgotten districts. Without a doubt. You could go back and look at the statistics. In fact, as a municipality, Dangriga had the highest unemployment rate pre-2020. I am absolutely grateful to Prime Minister John Briceno and my colleagues in cabinet who, in the past term and also in this term, have been sharing the resources of the government. Certainly, in my constituency and other constituencies in Stann Creek and Toledo. For example, you would see right next to this building, there’s a paved road, cement concrete road from the drums of our father to the Commerce Bight Pier. That’s a two-million-dollar investment, part of a larger five million dollar investment so that we can open up this whole area. We can receive cruise ships at the port. And this is the kind of infrastructure that we need to be able to attract investment. If you go out in front of Sacred Heart Church, you will see that there’s a ten acre multipurpose park coming out from the ground up, if you will. And it is a reality. Now, when we shared this vision three, four years ago, people were skeptical. They said, it’s just political rhetoric and all that, but now they can go there and see. That there’s a $4 million plan investment of which two million dollars is being put now. The amphitheater is now being built that will provide a state-of-the-art facility for our great artists here to be able to provide high quality performances for all people who are visiting and for local as well. That’s just what you can see from just two areas among many other things that we are working on.”
