So now, one of the questions is: what will be done to prevent a reoccurrence? Earlier this week, President of the Premier League of Belize Ian Haylock told News Five that the league and the Football Federation of Belize has implemented new measures to look after the wellbeing of foreign players. Those measures include the appointment of a league attorney tasked with ensuring that players have their work permits and that clubs are fulfilling their legal obligations.

Ian Haylock, President, Premier League of Belize

“The league has held a meeting with owners and in conjunction with that meeting we also had a discussion with the president of the federation and what we did was to immediately institute a legal person to assist the clubs. We sought the services of legal personnel to individually go to the respective clubs and dialogue with them and see if any of the clubs were having any challenges with getting their players in country and getting their work permit. We know that the permit and it has been expressed, and you have done your due diligence to show that the process has been a bit cumbersome. The process has been difficult to get but it is required to complain. So, immediately both the federation and the league decided to institute that measure whereby we had a legal person that is now responsible and now the club can engage that legal person to ensure that whatever is required or needed that the club will be able to seek the services of that legal person and both the league and the federation will be behind them at all level to ensure the necessary requirements are fulfilled.”
