KHMH CEO Will Not Seek Contract Renewal
The Chief Executive Officer of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Chandra Nisbet Cansino, will not be seeking a contract renewal after it ends on October 15.
With just a couple of weeks away from the end of her four-year contract, no successor has been named yet.
Cansino became CEO in 2021, just days after the previous choice, Doctor Michael Tewes, was met with such a strong backlash the offer was rescinded. As a registered nurse with extensive experience in administration, she took on the job with strong support from the union and hospital staff.
However, growing tensions from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Workers Union earlier this year threatened industrial action over stalled pension negotiations with the Government of Belize.
Earlier this month, the hospital authority and the union announced a settlement that will see current and former employees receive ex gratia payments between 2025 and 2026, closing a long-standing dispute.
After four years of service, she told News 5, “I am honored to have had the privilege to serve the people and staff, but I am now moving onto a new chapter.”
