Two BDF Soldiers Injured in City Shootout
Two Belize Defence Force soldiers were shot this evening in a shootout that occurred on the Phillip Goldson Highway just before 4 this evening. The incident unfolded in front of Horizon Academy in Belize City.
Footage of the incident shows two gunmen getting out of a mid-sized SUV and firing dozens of shots at a blue Chevy Equinox without licence plates. The men were captured quickly returning to the vehicle and taking off in the direction of Ladyville.
The two soldiers shot are thirty-six-year-old Glenford Reed, who suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg, and twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Augustine, who received a graze to his stomach. A third person was in the Chevy Equinox but escaped unhurt.
Both men were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where they are in stable condition.
Police officers secured the scene, cleared the traffic jam caused by the shootout, and recovered several expended shells before allowing traffic to flow again.
