Daylight Shooting Leaves Two Soldiers Wounded

Chaos erupted on the Philip Goldson Highway late this afternoon when gunmen in an SUV opened fire on another vehicle in a brazen daylight attack. It happened just before four o’clock near Horizon Academy, sending traffic into gridlock and leaving two Belize Defense Force soldiers nursing gunshot wounds. Police say as many as thirty rounds were fired at a light blue Chevy Equinox heading toward Ladyville. Inside were three men, two of them, thirty-six-year-old Glenford Reed and twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Augustine, were hit. Reed took a bullet to the leg, while Augustine was grazed in the stomach. Both are now in stable condition at the KHMH. A third passenger managed to escape unharmed. Investigators are still piecing together what led to this violent ambush, but tonight, the highway is back open after hours of traffic chaos. We’ll have more details in Monday’s newscast.
