Argument Turns Savage; San Lazaro Man Left Fighting for Life
A thirty-seven-year-old San Lazaro Resident is fighting for his life inside the KHMH after two machete wielding brothers mercilessly attacked him in front of a grocery store on Sunday night. Reports are that Edwardo Contreras was socializing in front of the store when an argument ensued between him and the two men. That argument led to the vicious attack. In the aftermath, Contreras was seen lying on the ground with multiple chop wounds across the head and body. News Five’s travelled north today and spoke with his family. Here is what he found out.

A vicious attack in San Lazaro Village has left a thirty-seven-year-old resident hospitalized in a critical condition. Edwardo Contreras was socializing in front of A and E store when two machete wielding men pounced on him. His brother, Hector Contreras, spoke with News Five off camera.

“Well, we were working together at this spot called ‘The Cenote.'” We were there that day, and went there the next day, which was Friday, Saturday. On Sunday, that’s when that happened to him. A man came and asked him for a ride to go drop him off. When the car broke down, he then went to go look for a man for help by the chiney store, [name omitted], but he wasn’t there. So that’s when he was there for a while, and that’s when it all happened. I think that’s all I can say. For all the time I’ve known him, he’s never had issues with anyone. In fact, one time, that same man who chopped up my brother had even invited me a beer. I never expected he would do something like that to my little brother. But truly, I wasn’t even there, so I don’t know what really happened.”
Amateur video from the incident shows one man hacking at Contreras while he was already on the ground in front of the store, badly wounded. Bystanders can also be seen trying to ward off Contreras’ attackers. Police named the suspects and revealed that one of the siblings is currently in custody.

“Every Saturday evening their boss was around to pay them, to pay us. And we normally get a beer and just chill a while. But that day he wanted to drink more, and he came out, and that’s what ended up happening to him. Whenever I was with him, I never saw anyone have any problems with him. Like people say, he wasn’t the one with the problem; it was the other ones that caused the problems. Well, what I can personally tell you is that my brother was never someone to be aggressive or into fighting. But if someone came around and got him angry, then he would react, but it would take a lot to anger him. They would really have to anger him for him to react.”
Hector Contreras confirmed that his brother is in critical condition, fighting for his life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Videos too graphic to display reveal large chop wounds to the victim’s head and a partially severed arm.

“Is it true that the suspect is of Mexican descent and they have been trying to flee to San Lazaro?”
ACP Hilberto Romero
“We do not know. We have apprehended one of them and we are seeking for the other one. He has not been located. Yes, information is that Contreras was drinking at the shop before the incident occurred.”
As for a motive, police say an argument led to the vicious chopping. Reporting for News Five, I am Paul Lopez.
