Elmer Nah Granted One-Day Adjournment in Triple Murder Trial

Another adjournment was granted today in the ongoing Elmer Nah triple murder trial, which remains in voidaire at the High Court before Justice Nigel Pilgrim. The case had last been heard three months ago, on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Dr. Lynden Jones informed the court that his client was suffering from an injury to his left eye sustained while at the Belize Central Prison.

Dr. Jones explained that Nah needed medical attention to determine the extent of his injuries, stressing that the defendant’s ability to see properly is crucial for him to actively follow his case. “The court’s primary duty is to ensure the defendant receives a fair trial. He has the right to follow his case both orally and visually,” Justice Pilgrim said in granting the adjournment. The Crown raised no objections.

Outside the courtroom, Dr. Jones shared that Nah told him he was pepper-sprayed about a week ago after allegedly witnessing prison security assault a fellow inmate. Rust particles from the cell block door, combined with the spray, reportedly injured Nah’s left eye, and he did not receive medical attention until the following day, resulting in ongoing complications.

Elmer Nah, 40, will return to court tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. for the continuation of the trial. Before returning to prison, Nah will first be taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation, as ordered by Justice Pilgrim.
