Hopkins Man Charged with Rape of a Child

Police have formally arrested and charged a 20-year-old Belizean man from Hopkins Village with the crime of rape of a child, following a report made by a 13-year-old student from southern Belize.

The incident was reported to police on Tuesday, September 23. The child, accompanied by a social worker, alleged that on Sunday, September 21, around 8:00 p.m., she was sexually assaulted by a male individual known to her.

A medical examination was conducted, which confirmed that the child had been carnally known. The injuries sustained were classified as wounding.

The police report does not say when the man was officially charged. Recently, a police officer was also charged with rape.
