San Lazaro Machete Attack: Man Hit with New Charges

Police have laid additional charges against 22-year-old Jael Felicito Ayala for the vicious machete attack on 37-year-old Edwardo Contreras. Ayala is now charged with Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Maim, along with his initial charge of Attempted Murder.

The incident unfolded on Sunday outside the A & E Store in San Lazaro Village, Orange Walk District.

Disturbing video from the scene showed Contreras lying motionless on the ground with severe injuries to the head and body.

The attack was carried out by two men armed with machetes. Contreras remains in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Authorities confirmed the second attacker as Alfredo Coronado. He is still at large and wanted by police.
