Pawn Shop Burglary Still Unsolved; Family Demands Action

A major burglary in August at Kephawn’s Pawn Shop has still gone unsolved. And tonight, a relative of the owner is questioning why justice has been delayed. Darrell Usher, the brother of Dorian Usher, believes that his sibling’s items can still be recovered. He is of the view, however, that due to the significant sum of items stolen and their large value, the corporal charged with investigating the matter is in way over his head. Usher is now calling on the department to have personnel from the Major Crimes Unit lend support to the corporal to conduct a thorough investigation. Usher has been conducting his own investigation and says he has identified the suspects and the vehicle involved. He told us that he had passed all his findings over to the police.

“The issue we have is that the matter was reported to the police. Upon my arrival like a week later, we got certain information and pass it on to the police. At that time they acted upon it, which was minor, just little information. After I did my own investigation into the matter I gathered a lot of information, I forwarded it to the police officer in charge of the case, a corporal. But, the work on the case has basically went dormant to some sense. Because although we are passing information, we are not getting any feedback. I literally found out everyone who was involved in the burglary directly. I passed the information to them. As a result, so movement so it reached one point I went to the Queen Street Police Station and complained about it. It reached the point that I had found the vehicle involved with the burglary. Found the vehicle, found the owner, where the owner worked. I relayed all of that to the investigator. The person works at a utility company in Belize.  I forward that to the investigator. When I followed up, bway I deh pan day off, and called back in the morning. My thing is that the quantum that was stolen from my brother’s shop is equal to what we would call a major crime. That is why we have the major crime unit in Belmopan. The quantum would result in a major crime and so mu thought was this case is to big for the corporal alone. And I know he has other things to attend to. So the interest is not there fully.  Even if he have it he does not have time. So, I had expected at least they could assign another two officers to be able to assist him.”
