Oceana Recognises Belize’s Marine Leaders at 2025 AGM
Over 300 Wavemakers, partners, and allies gathered at St Catherine’s Academy Mercy Center on Saturday, October 4, for Oceana’s 2025 Annual General Meeting. An event that celebrated individuals and organisations making a lasting impact on Belize’s coastal communities and marine ecosystems.
Twenty-four-year-old Brianna Boyd was named National Wavemaker of the Year for her work in conservation, climate education, and youth empowerment. While Hamanasi Adventure and Dive Resort received Partner of the Year for its longstanding commitment to responsible tourism and marine protection.
Keynote speaker Jamal “The Manatee Man” Galves, a National Geographic Explorer, spoke on the theme “An Ocean Between Us”, highlighting the global importance of ocean health and the power of local action. Oceana’s Vice President Janelle Chanona closed the event with a call for unity: “When we get together, big things happen…When we get together, we change the world for the better.”
