National Bus Company and Transport Service to Roll Out in 2026

The National Bus Consolidation Pro Tempore Advisory Committee met on October third to push forward plans for the new Consolidated National Bus Company, a major public-private partnership aimed at modernizing how Belizeans travel. The committee includes representatives from key ministries, unions, universities, the business community, and even the UNDP. So far, seventy-one percent of bus operators are on board with the transition. Audits are underway, and by mid-November, according to the advisory committee, it will have an opening balance sheet to guide equity and financial projections. The committee is also consulting with operators, banks, and international partners to ensure transparency and smooth implementation. Operations are set to begin on January first, 2026. Commuters can expect safer rides, upgraded terminals, and brand-new buses rolling out over the next two to three years. Their next meeting is in November to review audit results and finalize steps for Cabinet approval.
