Gang Figure ‘32’ Staine Granted Bail After Curfew Breach Charge

Tonight, Jahreem Staine, better known on the streets as ‘32’, is walking free on bail after a late-evening court session. As we’ve reported, several attempts have been made on his life by members of a rival gang and, somehow, he has managed to escape unscathed. Staine was arraigned today for contempt of a judicial order. Here’s what police say happened: Back in August, Staine was granted High Court bail on an attempted murder charge. One of his strict conditions is a nightly curfew from eight p.m. to five a.m. inside his home on Electric Avenue. But investigators allege that on September twelfth, he broke that rule without any reasonable excuse. In court today, Staine pleaded not guilty, claiming he does have an explanation. He told the magistrate, quote, ‘I have five houses in my yard, and every time police come, they go to my mother’s house.’ End quote.  Despite objections from the Crown, the magistrate granted bail, one thousand dollars, plus one surety, with conditions reinstated. Staine must stay in his own house, keep his curfew, and report to Belama Police Station every Friday. His next court date is November twenty-first, when disclosure will be provided. For context, his original High Court bail was five thousand dollars with two sureties and five conditions, including that curfew police say he violated. Staine insists he’s not guilty, and this case will now head to trial.
