BAHA Warns Against Expired and Unregistered Veterinary Products

The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is alerting the public to the dangers of expired and unregistered veterinary products being circulated both locally and online. The Authority has identified instances of individuals soliciting donations of expired veterinary medications from international sources, as well as unregistered online businesses selling unauthorised veterinary products and animal feed.

BAHA reminds the public that all veterinary drugs, veterinary pesticides, biologics (such as vaccines), hygiene and care products, and animal feed are strictly regulated under Statutory Instrument 184 of 2001: Belize Agricultural Health Authority: Veterinary Drugs and Animal Feed – Registration and Control Regulations.

All such products must be registered with the Veterinary Drugs Control Unit and imported with a valid permit. The importation, distribution, and sale of expired, unregistered, or unpermitted veterinary products and animal feed are prohibited. Violations carry maximum fines under SI No.34 of the BAHA Act, Chapter 211 of the Laws of Belize.

“Safeguarding Belize’s agricultural health is our top priority,” BAHA said. “Compliance with importation and registration regulations is essential to maintain the safety, integrity, and trade of our agricultural sector.”

BAHA urges all individuals and businesses to follow regulations carefully and to report any suspicious activity. For more information, contact the Animal Health Department at animalhealth@baha.org.bz or call 824-4872.
