Religious Affairs Ministry Meets with Council of Churches
Minister Louis Zabaneh wears more than one hat, he’s not just in charge of Transport, he also heads Religious Affairs. And today, he sat down with the Belize Council of Churches to talk about strengthening ties between government and the church community. For decades, they’ve partnered in education, but Zabaneh says it’s time to take that collaboration beyond the classroom and into other areas of society. Here’s how he explains it.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of Transport
“So today we started with the Council of Churches. We will also be meeting with evangelical groups and even the Muslim community because our mandate is to ensure that we communicate openly and that we try to understand as best as possible, the concerns of the communities. By doing that we have a greater opportunity to move forward and incorporate as best as possible the concerns within our policies and indeed as bishop mentioned there are many opportunities for us to partner on other areas beyond education. In our meeting we looked at some of these areas. We are setting our work plan and we want a clear work plan where we have specific objectives we want to achieve and we can measure how close we are to the point where we can make specific statements about achievement we have made on the plans we have as objectives right now.”
