Israel Kills Nine Palestinians Despite Gaza Ceasefire
Israeli forces have killed at least nine Palestinians in Gaza, according to Aljazeera. It is the first major breach of the US-brokered ceasefire agreed just days ago with the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye.
The victims were trying to return to their homes in northern Gaza City and southern Khan Younis, according to CNN News.
The truce was meant to bring lasting peace to the region after two years of devastating conflict. However, tensions remain high as aid groups warn that humanitarian conditions in Gaza are dire.
UNICEF’s Joe English said his colleague in Gaza described the city as “a skeleton of a city.” He added, “There is almost nothing left.”
English told CNN that Palestinian children have been deeply affected by the war. “Children in Gaza have spent the last two years deprived of that childhood,” he said.
Despite Israel allowing 600 aid trucks daily, English said, “At this moment in time, I don’t think any amount would be enough.”
Aid workers continue to struggle with insecurity, damaged infrastructure, and a desperate population awaiting relief.
