Man Charged for Deaths of Two Mexicans

Mexico’s Ambassador to Belize, Martha Zamarripa, expressed condolences and pledged full support to the families of the two Mexican men who died in a road traffic accident on the George Price Highway late Thursday night.

The fatal accident happened between miles 13 and 14 after 11:00 p.m. and involved a pickup truck, a Freightliner, and a compact car.

Reports are that the Ford, heading toward Belmopan, hit the truck’s rear wheel, spun out of control, and crashed head-on into the Nissan.

Inside the Nissan were 35-year-old Othoniel Vasquez Moreno and 46-year-old Amisadai Valdez Dominguez. Both men died at the scene after being trapped inside.

“It is very unfortunate to talk about this situation because it is a very serious tragedy, impacting two families,” Zamarripa told News 5 on Friday. “Any procedures they require from the embassy, they can count on the full support of our embassy.”

Dominguez’s family has posted a GoFundMe page to assist with the funeral expenses, including taking his body back to Mexico. “It is very painful what they are going through with their children,” Zamarripa added/.

Meanwhile, 40-year-old Osman Pineda, has been charged with “two counts of manslaughter by negligence, two counts of causing death by careless conduct, one count of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, and one count of failing to keep as close as possible to the righthand side of the road,” Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith stated.

Five-year-old Shamir Pineda and nine-month-old Damaris Pineda were travelling in the Ford pickup with Pineda and were also injured.
