Opposition Slams GOB Over Fortis Buyout

After the government’s big announcement about buying hydro plants and Fortis’ shares in BEL, the Opposition isn’t staying quiet. Tracy Panton and the U.D.P. caucus are calling for full transparency. They say this multi-million-dollar deal is being rushed without proper disclosure to the Belizean people. They are asking, was there an independent valuation? A cost-benefit analysis? Regulatory review? And most importantly, will this mean cheaper electricity for you? The Opposition doubts it. They’re also warning that a special budget appropriation could mean more borrowing, more debt, and a heavier burden on taxpayers.
