Biodiverse Landscapes Initiative Transforms Belize’s Forests

A quiet revolution is taking root in Belize’s forests, and it’s powered by international collaboration. From scarlet macaws to sustainable farms, the UK’s Biodiverse Landscapes Fund is helping communities protect nature while building resilience. Here’s how this partnership is making a difference. Belize is at the center of a major conservation push, thanks to the UK’s Biodiverse Landscapes Fund. Last week, a UK delegation toured the country to see firsthand how this initiative is transforming lives and landscapes. Over three days, representatives from the British High Commission and the UK Foreign Office joined Belizean conservation leaders at BLF-supported sites. They visited the Chiquibul, Vaca Forest, and communities like Selena and La Gracia, areas where the Wildlife Conservation Society and partners are leading efforts to protect biodiversity and empower local people. The BLF is funding projects that train fire brigades, equip communities with drones and water harvesting systems, and promote climate-smart farming. It’s also improving land rights for 50 communities and boosting sustainable incomes for more than two thousand women.
