49 Pounds of Weed Seized at Police Checkpoint

Police have arrested and charged three people after seizing 49 pounds of suspected cannabis during a highway operation on Monday night, October 20.

Officers from the Mobile Interdiction Unit and Highway Interdiction Team were conducting a checkpoint along the highway when a silver Ford Escape approached.

Police said that after informing the occupants of their intention to search the vehicle, the vehicle sped off. The officers pursued and intercepted the vehicle. Two men fled the scene.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several parcels of suspected cannabis.

Two women, 21-year-old Whitney Doris Alford of Unitedville and 31-year-old Lisa Marie Gonzalez of Christo Rey Road, Santa Elena, were detained.

23-year-old Francisco Ernesto Landaverde of San Ignacio later turned himself in to police.

Alford, Gonzalez, and Landaverde have all been charged with the offence of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply.
