From Independence to the Universe: Isabella Zabaneh Aims for the Crown
Belize is sending its beauty, brains, and heart to the world stage as 21-year-old Isabella Zabaneh departed for Thailand to compete in the 74th Miss Universe Pageant.
The proud delegate from Mango Creek/Independence left today, travelling first to Los Angeles before continuing to Thailand, where she will join contestants from across the world.
Miss Universe 2025 marks the first time the pageant officially allows married women and mothers to compete. While the rule change began in 2023, this year’s event fully embraces the expanded eligibility, welcoming a record number of diverse contestants. Previously, the competition was open only to single women under the age of 28. More than 119 contestants have been confirmed to participate this year.
Destinee Arnold, National Director of the Miss Universe Belize Foundation Ltd., expressed confidence in Zabaneh’s journey. “She has been walking, she has been talking, she has been travelling the world, working with the best… Not to mention the past decade of her life, she has been preparing for this moment,” she said.
Zabaneh herself shared her excitement and gratitude ahead of departure. “People keep asking me if I’m nervous, and I’ve learnt to channel my nerves into what is excitement and pure eagerness for what’s to come,” she said.
Her advocacy work is also central to her mission. “I’ve always advocated for a confident, secure identity and inner beauty… Through my nonprofit, we’ve been able to make tangible impacts on the lives of young women,” she said. “That’s my cause, that’s my purpose, and I will continue to advocate for it regardless.”
The Miss Universe finals are scheduled for the night of November 20, 2025.
