Belize Aims to be Global Leader in Renewable Energy Transition

At the Belize International Partners Conference, leaders and global allies are coming together to map out how the country can stay ahead in the race toward renewable energy. Hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Transformation, this two-day event is all about building climate resilience, especially as a small island developing state in the Caribbean. The theme this year is “Investing in the Green Transition.” From energy innovation and e-mobility to sustainable infrastructure and education, the focus is on turning ideas into action. Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca shares more on this critical mission and what it means for Belize’s role on the global stage.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs

“Throughout the course of the next two days, I am sure that you will hear the numerous programs and projects which government and private sector are pushing forward in all sectors, from transportation to electricity, education to infrastructure, and you will also no doubt hear what is on the horizon according to the data from our public sector investment program. Ongoing projects on the green agenda total just over Belize, seven hundred and eighty-seven million while in the pipeline. Another Belize one point eight billion worth of projects as we seek to accelerate and expand our green transition, structural climate, regulatory technical capacity and financial challenges are becoming a more stark and need to be overcome. This conference should help us to converge experience, expertise. And finance to identify the best strategies and actions to address these challenges in our particular context of a small, vulnerable country.”
