Triple Murder Trial Takes New Turn as Elmer Nah Returns to Crime Scene
It’s been nearly three years since the shocking New Year’s Eve triple murder in Belmopan, and today, a new chapter unfolded in the ongoing trial. Former Police Corporal Elmer Nah, the man accused of carrying out the grisly killings, was escorted from the Belize Central Prison to the High Court in Belize City this morning. But that wasn’t the final stop. From there, he was taken back to Belmopan, not for trial, but for a locus, a walkthrough of the crime scene, as investigators work to reconstruct the events of that tragic New Year’s Eve. Nah is facing charges for the brutal shooting deaths of brothers David and Jon Ramnarace, and Jon’s wife, Vivian Belisle Ramnarace. It was December thirty-first, 2022. The family had gathered at their home to ring in the new year when a lone gunman stormed in. Jon and David were killed on the spot. Vivian, who initially survived, sadly passed away just over two weeks later. The nation was stunned, and the case has remained in the spotlight ever since. Earlier this month, the trial resumed with intense focus on a controversial house search carried out on New Year’s Eve. Officer Jerome Middleton took the stand, testifying about the operation captured on police body cam. But defense attorney Dr. Lynden Jones wasn’t letting it slide. He grilled Middleton on the legality of the search, pointing out that the warrant was read after midnight, outside the legal window. In court, three out of four body cam videos were played, showing officers combing through Nah’s home, room by room. No weapon was found. But they did seize a headlamp and a Battle Dress Uniform, items Jones argued weren’t even covered by the warrant. As the trial presses on, the country continues to watch closely. For the Ramnarace family, and for a nation still shaken by violence, the hope is that justice is finally within reach.
