Packed Weekend of Basketball in William Dawson Tournament
Good evening, Belize. I’m Shane Williams with this week’s exciting edition of Sports Monday. Let’s kick things off with the William Dawson Sprite Basketball tournament in Ladyville on Saturday, as the Rising Stars tried to shine their light on the Boulevard Ballers. Here we see Aaron Johnson with an aggressive offensive rebound and put back to give the Ballers an early lead.
This turnover by the Stars leads to an easy outlet for the leaving Joshua Bradley to put the Ballers up by four. Godfrey Trapp swings this pass on target to Dean Maskall for a three to cut the lead the two in the third quarter. Dean Maskall takes this long rebound coast to coast for two more of his eleven points to lead all Stars scorers. On this rebound, the Boulevard Ballers caught the Stars sleeping in daylight for a long outlet and easy basket for Antwan Palacio. Ballers closed out the win with more fast break action in the fourth quarter as Joshua Bradley scores another pair of his twenty-two points here on this lay up in traffic.
In the other games on Saturday, the Survivor Ballers got the W against Western Paradise. Tora Bora came up clutch in a forty-two to forty win over perennial contender Hard Rock. Francis Arana was amazing again, scoring twenty-three points for Tuff Enuff to ease past Two-point-O-Bz and Travis Gabourel led all scorers this weekend with twenty-eight points for Class in their eighteen point blowout of Boom Ballers.
In game one on Sunday in Ladyville, the Avengers faced off with the G Assassins and just like in the movies, the heroes overcame once again. Here we see Brian Kelly Junior of the G Assassins picking off this pass and leading a two-on-one break for two of his team’s high twelve points. Tyrese Usher leads the response for the Avengers driving through traffic and laying it up for two. David Mckoy cleans up this miss and scores off the offensive rebound. The G Assassins tries to cut into the double digit lead with this quick attack by Shilon Ferrufino. But the Avengers quickly put any hopes of a come back on ice with more fast break points by Antoine Warrior. and David Mckoy who led all scorers with fourteen points. At the end of regulation to Avengers to the game by a final score of forty-six to thirty-four.
In the other games on Sunday, Trench Town needed all of Jeovanni Broaster’s fifteen points to hold off Eyan Rene and Team Nash for a forty-two to forty victory. God Speed couldn’t keep up with Don One in a low scoring affair that finished with the dons on top thirty-three to twenty-two. The I.G. Ballers put on a show and secured an easy twenty-one point win over Sunset Warriors. Devin Moody led a balanced approach for IG with eleven points and in the last game of the weekend, the Warriors of Lords Bank defended home turf with a forty-eight to forty-one big win over the Reapers. Mark Hilton led the charge for the host team with thirteen points.
To close off we end with the final tally of medals by Belizean athletes in the now concluded Central American Games and good news from Allan Sharp, the new President of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association.
