Police are investigating a late-night house fire that occurred on Tuesday, November 4, in San Antonio Village, northern Belize.

Authorities say that around 11:20 p.m., police responded to reports of a blaze in the village. Upon arrival, officers observed smoke coming from a cement house. The homeowner, 40-year-old Calvin Gilharry, a Belizean musician and the Village Chairman of San Antonio, told police that he was asleep when he was awakened by the smell of smoke around 11:00 p.m.

Gilharry said he discovered his room engulfed in flames and managed to escape unhurt by climbing through a window. Family members assisted in extinguishing the fire before it spread further.

The house was not insured, and the total cost of damages has yet to be determined. Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the blaze.
