Two Westrac employees were robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday morning while travelling to make a bank deposit in northern Belize.

Police say the incident happened around 11:00 a.m. on the Belize–Corozal Road in Orange Walk Town. Officers found a GMC Canyon pickup truck parked on the roadside.

The employees, 33-year-old Arturo Cansino and 44-year-old Artemio Carpiso, reported that they were on their way to the bank when two men on a dirt bike intercepted them. Cansino reported that the men held them at gunpoint and took two bags containing an undisclosed amount of cash and cheques.

This is the second brazen daylight robbery in less than a week. On Friday, October 31, the manager of UNO Gas Station, Eric Chi, was also robbed at gunpoint just outside of the company’s compound at Mile 1.5 on the Philip Goldson Highway. The robbers escaped on a motorcycle, and reportedly made off with $50,000.
