Dump Truck Mishap Turns Deadly in Santa Marta Village
An elderly man is dead after being run over by a dump truck on Tuesday night in Orange Walk. The incident unfolded around eight p.m. in Santa Marta Village where, according to reports, thirty-six-year-old Nelson Pech was attempting to move his dump truck, which he had parked along the Old Northern Highway. Reports are that Pech had been driving forward slowly but stopped driving when he noticed his brother signaling to him from behind. Upon exiting the vehicle, they discovered the body of Julio Flota, a sixty-seven-year-old resident of Santa Martha Village. Upon police arrival, Flota was found lying face down with visible injuries to his head and arms. He was transported to the Regional Hospital morgue, where he was pronounced dead just before ten p.m. At this time, police are still investigating the incident.
