Free Zone Businessman Survives Cartel-Style Attack

A prominent Corozal Free Zone businessman survived what is being described as an apparent execution attempt near the Mile 8 roundabout in Hattieville on Wednesday night.

Nitin Buxani, accompanied by a driver, was inside a pickup truck when the vehicle came under heavy gunfire at approximately 6 o’clock. Residents report hearing at least 19 shots.

The driver managed to transport both men to Belize City, where they are reportedly in stable condition. Sources indicate that Buxani sustained multiple injuries, with a chest plate reportedly stopping two bullets.

Sources familiar with the incident suggest the attack may be linked to internal disputes within the Corozal Free Zone, an area known for cartel influence, especially over the tobacco trade.
