PSU Puts Labor Ministry on Notice

The Ministry of Labour has confirmed receipt of a formal industrial action notice from the Public Service Union (PSU), filed in response to the government’s transition of the Tax Service Department into a Semi-Autonomous Revenue Authority (SARA).

Valentino Shal, CEO in the Ministry of Labour, said the notice was submitted on Wednesday and is currently under review. “We are fully aware of it. We have received a notice, and we are preparing a response for them very shortly,” Shal stated.

He added that the ministry is in the process of acknowledging the submission and holding internal discussions to determine the best way forward. “We have to internally discuss how to help them address this matter,” he said.

The PSU has long warned that the shift to SARA could jeopardise employee benefits and job security and claims they were excluded from key consultations. The union’s president, Dean Flowers, has also questioned the government’s projections for increased revenue, citing a lack of clear evidence.

At the heart of the dispute is concern over costs and the welfare of public officers that could be affected by the transition.
