San Pedro Killer Found Guilty of Double Murder

Thirty-one-year-old Anthony Carballo Jr., better known as ‘Lee Pena,’ is back behind bars and waiting to learn his fate after being found guilty of a brutal execution-style killing on San Pedro. Back in August, Justice Candace Nanton convicted Carballo on two counts of murder for the daylight slaying of Deon Faber and Allen Martinez. That happened on March twenty-first, 2019, in broad daylight, around 1:45 p.m. Carballo was among four prisoners brought to Belize City, but it turns out his sentencing isn’t until Friday, November seventh. That’s when Justice Nanton hears his mitigation plea and then hand down the sentence. Carballo is expected to call two character witnesses in his defense. Originally, Carballo was charged alongside thirty-one-year-old Darrell Grant. Prosecutors argued the men acted together, but the judge wasn’t convinced. Surveillance footage and other evidence pointed to Carballo as the shooter, while Grant was acquitted and walked free. The case relied heavily on circumstantial evidence, more than forty video clips and a statement from Faber’s wife, who tragically passed away during the pandemic. In her 2019 statement, she described the terrifying moment two men stormed her home. Her husband ran inside, and Allen Martinez tried to shield her before being shot. Both men died instantly. While the actual murder wasn’t caught on camera, the videos showed the suspects arriving and fleeing just seconds after the shots were fired. That, combined with her description, linked Carballo to the crime. Throughout the trial, Carballo stayed silent. Grant, on the other hand, claimed he was only there to buy weed and had nothing to do with the killings. On Friday, we’ll find out just how many years Carballo will spend behind bars.
