Three-on-Three Madness Takes Over Civic Center
This weekend, the Belize Civic Center will be buzzing with energy as more than three hundred young basketball players hit the court for a two-day, three-on-three showcase. It’s all organized by the Belize Global Elite Academy; a group committed to growing the game and giving back to the community. We caught up with academy co-founder Kashief Thomas to find out what he’s expecting from this big event, and why giving back to Belizean basketball means so much to him.

“The plan tomorrow is to see all the beautiful kids come out and bring back that joy, bring back that community, and, some three on tree basketball. We’re gonna have food free food for the kids, all the participants, the staff, free drinks for everybody. We’re gonna be giving away three hundred basketball, three hundred jerseys, backpacks, three hundred backpacks, and a little shoes and stuff for the kids just to make it fun. So that’s what’s gonna be going on tomorrow, Saturday at eight a.m. and Sunday at eight a.m. Basketball have done a lot for me, have done a lot for my family. Basketball allowed me to travel the world, have a lot of friends all over the world. I was blessed to get a scholarship to go to Iowa. I grew up in Bacca, Martin’s Lake Independence area. I went to St. Luke Method Promise School went from there. I went to St of Vernon School. So basketball has done a lot for me, man. I’m a businessman now. I’m very successful at what I got going on in the U.S. I own a medical lab. I’m into the medical business and a few different stuff. And basketball could do a lot, man. But you have to dream and you have to believe. And I feel like we need more of me and better than me to come back and keep going.”
