Belize Delivers Aid, Supplies After Hurricane Melissa

Belize is stepping up to help its Caribbean neighbors recover from the devastation of Hurricane Melissa. The government has announced two hundred thousand US dollars in relief aid to both Jamaica and Cuba, two countries hit hard by one of the most powerful storms to sweep through the Atlantic. Melissa left behind widespread destruction, homes flattened, infrastructure crippled, and essential services disrupted. Officials say this is yet another stark reminder of how climate change is hitting small island nations the hardest. But Belize isn’t stopping at financial aid. Relief supplies have also been sent to Belizean students studying in Jamaica and Cuba, including hygiene items, canned food, and cash assistance. The government says it’s monitoring the situation closely and stands ready to do more if needed. In a statement today, Belize reaffirmed its solidarity with Jamaica and Cuba, calling the bond between these nations one of friendship, cooperation, and mutual support.
