EU Approves Five-Year Schengen Visas for Belizeans

Belize has welcomed a major development in its travel relations with the European Union. The European Commission has approved a visa cascade for Belizean nationals holding regular, official, or diplomatic biometric passports, a move that takes effect immediately.

Under the new arrangement, Belizeans applying at Schengen embassies in Guatemala or Mexico will now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry Schengen visas. This marks the most generous application of EU Visa Code rules available to nationals of a third country, allowing travellers to avoid repeated applications as long as their biometric passports remain valid.

Officials say the new visa arrangement is expected to boost tourism, business, educational exchange, and family visits, strengthening people-to-people connections across both regions.
