Duchess of Edinburgh to Meet Prime Minister Briceno
The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie Rhys-Jones, is in Belize. She arrived at Philip Goldson International Airport on Sunday night, beginning a three-day visit to Belize. She was welcomed by Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam, Ambassador Amalia Mai, CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Belize Defence Force Honour Guard.
Today, the Duchess is set to visit the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI) in Belize City, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister John Briceño. Her day will conclude with a reception at the House of Culture, which will inlcude an investiture ceremony.
Her visit focuses on initiatives related to health, the empowerment of indigenous women, and the preservation of Belize’s barrier reef. Officials say her visit highlights the close ties and enduring friendship between Belize, a Commonwealth realm, and the United Kingdom.
