Boledo Millions to Fund National Health Insurance

The Briceño administration is betting big on Boledo to fund better healthcare. Today, the Prime Minister announced that profits from Boledo sales are expected to top twenty million dollars this year, and that money will help roll out National Health Insurance across the country. CEO Narda Garcia says she wants those funds to flow directly from the Belize Government Lotteries Limited to NHI as an autonomous body. So, could your lucky numbers be paying for better health coverage?

“This government took back the Boledo and I take great pride to report that this first 12 months, April 2024 to March 2025, we earned sixteen million, seven hundred thousand, one hundred and fifty-four dollars and I will not mention name over there, but we know who was the architect in making sure that the UDP crew get this. It’s projected that by the end of March of next year for this second year, that we have a full year of operations, it is projected to have profits of way over $20 million.”

“Right now what we have done, because NHI is not yet an autonomous body and I believe that in the house meeting for December, and if not – if we don’t meet it for December we will definitely have to meet it by January, we will have NHI as an autonomous body that can receive money directly from the BGLL, which is the Boledo, Belize Government Lotteries Limited, right? Who, who manages the Boledo. Right now we send it to the government of Belize and they pass it on to the NHI, who is under the board, the Social Security Board at this point in time.”
