Good evening, Belize! Shane Williams here with a bruising, bulging, and booming Sports Monday, where boxing warriors, bodybuilding titans and basketball hoopers collide! Let’s start with Mayhem Backa Martin’s where Belizean Boxing phenom Amir “King Mir” Rudon inspired a sellout at Swift Hall for his shot at the WBC FECABOX championship belt.

Mexico’s Carlos Elvira, who entered this fight ten and two with eight wins by knockout, upped the pressure in the third, throwing haymakers after haymakers, most of which Amir rolled off. The fourth was a spectacular round for King Mir and it seemed like he was set to easily outclass the sluggish bruiser. The fight changed here in the fifth, right around where WBC allows the mid fight score to be read. With the announcement that Rudon was ahead on the score cards, Carlos went into desperation mode while King Mir used most of his energy to try get separation.

With Amir still up on the cards, final seconds of the seventh round, one of Carlos hail Mary’s finally connects, sending Rudon wobbly to his corner, hoping the thirty seconds between rounds would be enough for him to recover. In the eighth and final round, King Mir came out with his legs still not fully underneath him and with a concerned crowd watching, Elvira went for the jugular. Amir simply couldn’t respond, and he was unable to survive this flurry. And while he may have lost the bout, King Mir won the night, inspiring a whole generation of fighters to take up the sport.

And the star of the night for Belize was definitely one hundred and thirty pound WBC Amateur Champion Julian Pacheco Jr. who defended his belt against Cesar Perez. Pacheco came out with a blistering pace to start the match and used the first round to test the mettle of his opponent. And just before the second round started, Pacheco looked back into his corner and made a declaration. Shortly after, the champ made it publicly known that he is a bad young man, forcing the referee to start a knockdown count. Sherman Galvez left his best output for this fourth and final round of his professional welterweight match to win on the scorecards by majority decision thirty-nine to thirty-eight.

Let’s go from boxing to body building at the Bliss to find out who will be dubbed Mr. Belize 2025! First up was the junior body building competition where Edwin Cruz went unchallenged but still had to show the results of his hard work. There were no women participants this year so the focus turned to Mr. Physique where the focus is on muscle definition. Kareem Middleton, Erin Walford, Alber Hernandez, Marcus Garcia and Josue Joel competed for two rounds. Round one they executed three poses in an I-walk. Then in round two they did four quarter turns for the judges. The judges made specific requests then concluded Kareem Middleton was this year’s Mr. Physique.

Marcus Garcia took second place and Erin Walford third. Next was the Masters Body Building category where men over forty years old get to show that age is nothing but a number. This year there were only two competitors, last year’s Mr. Belize Randy Hyde and Kevin Alvarez. The judges decided this title goes to Hyde. In the main event of the night! Six men took the cage to make their cases for the title of Mr. Belize. The judges requested the each show seven compulsory poses: Front Double Biceps; Front Lat Spread; Side Chest; Side triceps; Back double biceps; back lat spread; Abdominal and thighs.

In the opening it looked like Evon Noralez would upset the last two Mr. Belize winners, reigning champ Randy Hyde and 2023 Mr. Belize Godfrey Alford. But this was the defining moment, the call for abdominal and thighs. Noralez couldn’t get those thigh muscles to wake like he would want. Those in the sport say he had too much water in his legs. The judges declared no one fit to take the crown from Randy Hyde who was named back-to-back Mr. Belize. And before we go, by popular demand, here is this year’s pose off.

Well, that’s all we have for you tonight. Look out for us at a sports spectacular near you. Until next time, I’m Shane Williams reminding you that friendly competition unites and ball is life, so keep balling Belize!
