A tragic fire claimed the life of 90-year-old Lucia Sho just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, in San Antonio Village, Toledo. Punta Gorda police received reports of the blaze nearly two hours later.

When officers arrived, the home was completely destroyed, with only charred remains left. Neighbours tried to rescue the elderly woman but could not reach her due to the intensity of the fire.

Investigators believe the fire started in the bedroom and quickly spread through the rest of the house. Although the official cause has not been confirmed, relatives in Dangriga’s New Site Area said the family often used a kerosene lamp for light, and it is suspected that this may have played a role in the blaze.

Her granddaughter-in-law, who lives nearby, recalled hearing her cries before discovering the devastating scene. While the community’s head describes her death as a tragic loss for San Antonio.
