“Nobody Not Saying Nothing”: Family Claims No Updates in Delecia Flowers’ Murder

One month after the brutal murder of 35-year-old Delecia Flowers inside her Belize City home, her family says they are still struggling to cope with the toll of her death. Flowers was killed during a home invasion in late October, an attack that also left her teenage daughter hospitalised with head injuries.

Her brother, Delroy Moody, spoke with News Five about the turmoil the family has faced since the incident. He says the loss has caused significant strain within the family: “we still going through a lot of little tribulations, right now.”

According to Moody, the family has received little to no information about the investigation. “Nobody not saying nothing. Nobody not tell me nothing. My mom not even call me or talk to me or tell me nothing,” he said.

Flowers was one of ten siblings. Two have already passed away: Delecia, and the youngest boy in the family.

As today marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism, Moody also reflected on the broader issue of gender-based violence in Belize. “I live with a wife 15 years, and out of that 15 years I go through my little thing, but I never hit my wife like that… I just hold my peace, my bounds,” he said.

He added that he believes substance abuse is a major factor contributing to violence. “There are men that have anger. The way how I see it, it’s drugs. Plays a big role in it. The drugs and the alcohol,” he said.
