Citco Breaks Down Current Motorcycle License Process
There’s been a storm of criticism since the Ministry of Transport announced plans for mandatory training for all motorcycle drivers. Officials argue the move will make roads safer and save lives. But many riders see it differently, they say it’s just another burden on people who depend on motorcycles to get around. Right now, anyone applying for a cycle license already must pay for tests and inspections. So, what would this new requirement really mean? To find out, we spoke with the city’s top traffic enforcement officer, who walked us through the current process. And we also got the perspective of someone who lives this reality every day, a motorcycle delivery driver reacting to the proposed changes.

“To obtain a cycle license, motorcycle license, first of all, you have a bit age of seventeen year overs, uh, over. Also, you need a s permit to obtain a land permit. You need to have a valid source of the card. Valid passport. Police, passport. Police also card every residency card. Um, with that you apply, you get a farm, you apply for $30 and um, you need the farm. You need a doctor for stamp and sign the farm or medical doctor to stamp and sign the farm. And you also need, um, two passport size picture, and the permit is for $30. Also a proof of address that we live in city, um, when you get, when they issue the land permit. The is issued for three months. However, we give over a two week span to go and study, to do the, the written test. When you finish a written test, you get next two week span to do the protocol test. When you finish a protocol test, then you could come in and pay ninety dollars and you could obtain the license for a motorcycle.”

“Most of the time accident usually caused by the next driver cause we have motorcyclists. People noh respect we, so we have to make sure we drive for we and drive for people and take precautions. Same with them, you know? But the, the, the 300 as fee is really ridiculous. Definitely we know they will push it. So we’ll have those comply and, you know, pay and take the training. But I really say, well benefit from the training then was just a certificate.”
