Chester Cagey on Home Affairs Job
Since the recent Cabinet reshuffle and the appointment of Oscar Mira as Minister of Home Affairs, speculation has been mounting over who will take on the role of Chief Executive Officer. Minister Mira has made it clear that he wants someone he trusts and feels comfortable working with. That means Kareem Musa’s CEO, Sharole Carr-Saldivar, is off the table. One name in the mix is Francis Usher, the current CEO at the Ministry of Defense. However, Usher’s long career in the Belize Defense Force makes him well-suited for his current post, just as former Commissioner of Police Chester Williams would be an obvious choice for Ministry of Home Affairs. So, could Williams make a lateral move to Home Affairs? When we asked him, the usually candid public servant offered a rare “no comment.”
Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport
“I must say as a CEO, I serve at the pleasure of the Prime Minister. It is where the Prime Minister believes his CEOs would best serve or would be best fit. Certainly withing the wisdom of the Prime Minister if he believes I would be better fit in the Ministry of Home Affairs and I am asked, I will accept the offer. Until then I remain at my current position. I must say that I enjoy my current position where I must say that I enjoy a very good working relation with my Minister Dr. Zabaneh. We are a very good team. There is a lot that we have done and a lot more that we want to get done. So whichever way the Prime Minister’s decision goes where that matter is concern, I am happy.”
