MOE and BNTU Kumbaya with Joint Commitment
The Ministry of Education and the Belize National Teachers’ Union appear to be moving in harmony again after a December fourth meeting ended with both sides signing a joint statement aimed at improving Belize’s education system and strengthening support for teachers.
According to the release, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of educators, while both parties stressed the importance of professional development, transparency, and sustained collaboration.
The statement outlines several areas of agreement, including advancing work on Head of Department allowances and continuing professional development requirements for teacher licensing, streamlining the Teacher Transfer Grant process, creating a temporary cross-level licensing pathway, formalizing payments for teachers who cover additional credit hours, and embedding teacher-welfare programs into the upcoming Education Sector Plan for twenty-twenty-six to twenty-thirty.
They also agreed to launch a new digital platform for teacher concerns, ensure access to all benefits and allowances for eligible teachers, and explore early childhood education programs with Walden University.
To maintain accountability and track progress, the Ministry and the union will hold quarterly follow-up sessions.
