Will the PSU Withdraw Their Active Trade Dispute?

The Public Service Union (PSU) is asking its members to vote on how to move forward in its dispute with the government over the proposed transition of the Belize Tax Service to a Semi-Autonomous Revenue Authority (SARA).

The union declared a trade dispute in early November after raising concerns that they were kept out of key discussions and citing worries about efficiency, costs, and, most importantly, the welfare of employees.

Following a meeting on December 3, 2025, the government has now provided formal written commitments, including a guarantee that SARA will not be implemented before October 2026 and a pledge to hold meaningful consultations with the PSU once the draft documents are completed.

The union has also requested that the government provide clear timelines by December 16 for the formation of a joint committee to guide consultations and for the completion of the draft documents.

In light of these assurances, the government has asked the PSU to withdraw its active trade dispute. The union is now turning to its members to decide the next step by voting in an official poll.
